Summary The Truck Driving Trainer is responsible for training students to develop the skills needed to pass the state CDL exam through classroom instruction, structured driving environments, and on public roadways, while also monitoring equipment maintenance. Essential Duties or Responsibilities The essential duties and primary responsibilities below are intended to describe the general requirements of this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.

* Instruction and Training Delivery *
* Conduct advanced training and testing preparation in vehicle inspection, driving maneuvers, range, and road driving skills to meet or exceed requirements for the Illinois Secretary of State Commercial Driver's test.
* Provide instruction on federal (FMCSA) and state regulations relevant to commercial driving.
* Observe, evaluate, and document student performance and development throughout the course.
* Student Management and Support
* Promote a safe and productive learning environment by consistently applying established rules and procedures to guide behavior in both classroom and driving range settings.
* Provide constructive feedback to students regarding training progress and performance.
* Record Keeping and Reporting
* Maintain accurate driving skill checklists and attendance logs.
* Assist the Program Coordinator with maintaining student employment data following program completion. Qualifications
* High School diploma or equivalent
* Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License
* Current DOT medical card
* Minimum of 3 years of Class A CDL driving experience and/or a combination of CDL trainer experience
* Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMSCA) regulations, CDL, IDOT, and Illinois Driver's License Bureau testing requirements Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Ability to effectively deliver instructional content using classroom, hands-on, and technology-supported training methods.
* Skill in evaluating and monitoring student performance, providing constructive feedback, and managing student behavior in diverse learning environments.
* Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate academic records and prepare detailed reports in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
* Comprehensive knowledge of commercial motor vehicle operation, safety regulations, and Illinois Secretary of State Commercial Driver's test requirements.
