Location:

Job Purpose:
Primary responsibility is to safely transport passengers in multiple types of vehicles, including those with manual and automatic transmissions.
- Drive a regular route, serve as a regular, spare or charter driver; ensure safe operation of the transportation vehicle.
- Read and understand street signs, route sheets and maps.
- Complete pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of the bus, including child checks.
- Assist students in the loading and unloading process, including wheelchair lift.
- Cooperate and communicate with school personnel, parents and students.
- Attend all safety and training meetings.
- Conduct emergency evacuation from the bus, including exiting from the emergency door.
- Clean the interior of the bus, sweeping, dusting and cleaning windows; clean outside windows.
- Perform other specialized functions as required by contract.
- Manage student behavior and safety.
- Learn and follow route sheets or electronic routing devices.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Operator’s license with required endorsements and any state or local permits as required.
- Ability to work early morning hours.
- Capable of working without direct supervision.
- Maintain a professional and respectful attitude toward fellow employees and customers.
- Dress in a professional and appropriate manner for a business environment.
- Perform all job functions in the safest manner, adhering to OSHA guidelines and applicable Federal & State laws.
- Execute all job duties while following company policy and procedure.
- Ability to use or learn to use internet, additional programs as required and office equipment, including fax and phones or other electronic devices.
- Successfully complete and maintain dexterity test and DOT physical; comply with drug‑free workplace policy.
- Open service door, emergency door, bus hood, steering wheel, windows; apply service & parking brake; adjust mirrors and wheelchairs; evacuate students, dragging up to 120 lbs over 40 feet.
- Lift bus hood, trash box; accommodate challenged passengers into seats; wheel chocks, tire chains, emergency equipment; up to 40 lbs.
- Walk across lot, up and down bus aisle, around exterior of bus.
- Sit for up to 2‑3 hours.
- Climb steps in and out of bus; clean windshield; perform under‑hood inspection multiple times a day.
- Reach under hood for inspection; clean windows; apply tie‑downs, safety vests, car seats; adjust mirrors; open emergency door from ground; check roof hatch; apply service brake, clutch and accelerator.
- Grip doors, knobs, switches, handles, etc.
- Detect problems with passengers on bus, emergency vehicles, unusual engine noises; maintain normal conversation.
- Pre‑trip inspection; apply tie‑downs; sweep; check for sleeping.
- Read street signs, route sheets.
- Communicate in English with passengers, parents, school officials, dispatch, monitor if applicable.
- Drop from emergency door to ground safely.
