Position Overview

Seasonal Scale/Probe Operators are essential to delivering excellent service and maintaining smooth grain receiving operations. This job is primarily responsible for performing work associated with the scale, probe or in a facility where those functions are combined. Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, weighing trucks in/out trucks, taking grain samples, grading grain and recording information, and other duties as assigned.

The operator uses strong customer service skills to build professional relationships with company customers, serving as an important point of contact for the company.

Responsibilities
  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings, and where applicable participate in Food Safety and Quality Programs (e.g., Oilseed Processing locations).
  • Perform all duties within compliance of OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable). This includes wearing appropriate PPE for the task being performed.
  • Identify inbound trucks; weigh trucks, record information, and take samples where applicable.
  • Perform appropriate tests required for the grading of specific grains, where applicable.
  • Electronically record information required (e.g., grades, splits, weights).
  • Direct trucks to the appropriate location and weigh out empty trucks, accurately recording information where applicable.
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with customers while keeping the truck line moving.
  • Complete documentation in a timely, accurate, and legible manner.
  • Label and store samples according to facility protocol where applicable.
  • Perform general clean‑up, including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other general housekeeping responsibilities.
  • Assist with ground piles, cleaning bins, rail duties, etc., as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Education Required – High school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience Required – None.
  • Preferred – 1 year’s experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.
  • License/Certification Required – Grain grader and/or weighing certificate; if not obtained before hire, must obtain within time applicable to perform job duties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of computers and software.
  • Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
  • Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.
  • Strong multi‑tasking skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow direction and use logical thought process to interpret oral and written instructions and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to remain focused on exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.
Physical Demands

The physical demands and requirements of this job may vary depending on the specific location and operational needs. Ability to balance constantly/continuously; bend and stoop occasionally; bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel and squat frequently; climb stairs where applicable; concentrate on task without becoming distracted, constantly/continuously; distinguish grain sample characteristics, odors, and quality differences; enter information into a computer; grasp and reach continually and frequently;

lift 3 lb. samples above the shoulder frequently; lift/push/pull 50 lb. occasionally to continuously depending on daily needs; meet requirements of PPE, PFT, and fit testing; perform work in confined spaces; stand and walk constantly/continuously; stand or sit constantly/continuously; understand and communicate verbally and in person and over two‑way radio; understand and communicate written instructions; work extended hours, weekend, holidays and/or alternate shifts as needed;

work in an environment with high dust levels; work outside in extreme weather conditions; utilize near, far and peripheral vision for task performance; identify problems with grain when necessary.

Benefits and Compensation

Expected base pay: $16.00 - $16.00 per hour. Actual pay offered may vary depending on location, experience, and other factors.
