UEC Mechanical Engineering is looking for experienced

Pipe fitters to join our team.

This is an excellent opportunity for skilled Pipe fitters with industrial site experience who are looking to work as part of an established mechanical engineering team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the fabrication, preparation and installation of high- and low-pressure piping systems, working from engineering drawings and specifications and ensuring all work is completed safely and to the required standards.

The Role

As a Pipefitter at UEC Mechanical Engineering, you will be responsible for preparing sections of piping systems ready for installation, as well as installing prefabricated pipework on site.

You will work with a range of materials including stainless steel, steel alloys, iron, copper, aluminium and plastic piping.

Key Responsibilities

Your duties will include:

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications to establish job requirements.
  • Measuring, marking and cutting pipework to the required dimensions.
  • Preparing and positioning pipework and flanges ready for welding.
  • Ensuring correct alignment, orientation, gaps, spacing and straightness of pipework.
  • Bending pipework using machinery, heat or manual methods.
  • Joining metal pipework by soldering, threading and screwing.
  • Joining plastic pipework through cementing, fusion or hot-air welding.
  • Forming piping from sheet metal where required.
  • Checking pipe preparations, tack-welded joints, alignment, straightness and dimensional accuracy.
  • Installing prefabricated pipework sections on site.
  • Operating trade-related machinery and workshop equipment following appropriate training.
  • Operating overhead cranes and carrying out basic slinging duties safely.
  • Carrying out Firewatch and Standby duties when required.
  • Using oxy/fuel hand burning, heating and cutting equipment.
  • Completing safety checks on tools and equipment.
  • Working in accordance with all company and site health and safety requirements.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable duties as required by your manager and in line with business requirements.
About You

We are looking for Pipe fitters who have a strong practical knowledge of pipe fabrication and installation and who can work accurately and safely within an industrial environment.

  • NASEC, NVQ Level 3 or an approved Pipe fitting Apprenticeship/equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years' relevant site experience.
  • Previous experience working within a refinery or similar industrial establishment.
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience preparing and aligning pipework ready for welding.
  • Good understanding of pipe fitting techniques, tools and equipment.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety.
  • Reliable, professional and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Experience or certification in the following would be advantageous:

  • Overhead crane operation.
  • Basic slinging.
  • Oxy/fuel burning, heating and cutting.
  • Firewatch and Standby duties.
  • Industrial mechanical engineering or petrochemical environments.
