Rooted in Te Tiriti o Waitangi and informed by both te ao Māori and te ao Pākehā, the programme emphasises ako (reciprocal learning), whanaungatanga (relationships), and manaakitanga (care).
Through a combination of academic study and professional practice, ākonga engage deeply with the theory and practice of ECE. The programme encourages critical reflection, collaborative learning, and strong connections with whānau, hapū, iwi, and the wider ECE community. Graduates leave not only as qualified teachers, but as committed advocates for tamariki, equity, and culturally responsive teaching in Aotearoa.

- Visiting ākonga in ECE settings and contributing to shared practicum supervision
- Participating in noho marae and kaupapa Māori learning contexts as a teaching team
- Engaging in shared reflection, scholarship, and ongoing programme development
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Fluency in te reo Māori, with confidence using te reo across teaching, professional, and relational contexts
- A deep, lived understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga Māori, and Tiriti o Waitangi obligations within education
- Strong pedagogical knowledge, including the ability to articulate why and how teaching decisions are made
- Experience working in collaborative or co-teaching environments, including shared planning and assessment
- Experience supporting adult learners and developing future teachers
- Understanding of culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy, including second-language acquisition
- A reflective, research-informed approach to teaching practice
You will also:
- Hold a current Full Practising Certificate (NZ Teaching Council – ECE, Primary, or Secondary)
- Hold, or be actively working towards, a Master’s degree
- Be actively engaged in professional learning and/or research
- Be a generous, relational, and dependable team member
