The Instructional Paraprofessional assists in the supervision, care and instruction of students with a variety of learning needs under the supervision of a licensed/certified staff member. These services may be delivered in a special education or general education environment.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Adhere and support the philosophy, mission and policies of Tri-County and the school district

  • Completes basic training for position

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions
  • Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects, materials, or students.
  • Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of noisy and crowded environments.
  • May be exposed to being hit, kicked, or bit by a student.
Other General Responsibilities
  • Adapt classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the teacher/therapist for the purpose of providing an opportunity for all special education students to participate in classroom activities.
  • Implement classroom management plans and individual behavior plans consistently.
  • Assist students with daily care activities (toileting, diapering, tube feeding, etc) for the purpose of providing appropriate care and/or developing daily living skills.
  • Assist with maintaining a classroom conducive to learning.
  • Provide data to supervising teacher/therapist regarding student performance on IEP goals and benchmarks/objectives.
  • Document student activities and daily work, as requested.
  • Perform record keeping and clerical duties, as assigned.
  • Prepare educational/therapeutic materials, as requested.
  • Participate in inservice activities to improve job performance and obtain necessary inservice hours.
  • Implement academics instruction designed by the teacher/therapist for individuals and small groups.
  • Monitors student activities to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
  • Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Obtain advance approval for inservice training, as required.
  • Adhere to all district and Interlocal health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Health and inoculation certificate on file at the Central Office.
  • Meets Highly Qualified status:
    1) hold an Associate's Degree (or higher) from an accredited university or college or
    2) complete 48 college credit hours or
    3) pass the Master Teacher Test
  • Desire to continue career improvement.
Salary

According to Classified Pay Scale and/or starting rate, set by board annually

Length of term

1116 hours, following the school district calendar and student days
