Summary

The Esports Coach will be responsible for leading an esports program at Independence Community College. This position directs all aspects of the program, including recruiting qualified students, scheduling and coaching intercollegiate matches and tournaments, preparing practice schedules, understanding the fundamentals of esports coaching, and removing barriers to program success. The Coach will also provide opportunities for students on the competitive, business, and relationship sides, demonstrating a vision for a collegiate esports program aligned with ICC’s mission and vision.

Salary

$29,000 annually plus on campus housing and meals.

$15.00 per hour additionally for Housing Supervisor duties (up to 20 hours per week).

Benefits

Full‑time benefits including health, dental, vision, 403(b), Section 125 supplemental benefits, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid personal time, and paid holiday time.

The position is housed in the Student Affairs department and reports directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs. It works collaboratively with all functional areas of the college. An individual in this position may be assigned additional job‑related responsibilities within the department or college as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in any field required.
  • At least two years of experience in a competitive esports environment involving multiplayer online video games with team‑based elements. General knowledge of League of Legends, Overwatch, Call of Duty, or other competitive titles is required. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to resolve issues independently.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • General knowledge about the equipment used in esports and streaming.
  • Ability to work with a diverse community of students, faculty, and administrators.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, manage competing responsibilities, and promote a positive and equitable team environment.
  • Exceptional organizational and scheduling skills.
  • Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Significant travel required for recruiting and tournaments.
  • Successful background check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field preferred.
  • 3‑5 years of experience in a competitive esports environment involving team‑based multiplayer games. General knowledge of League of Legends, Overwatch, Call of Duty, or other competitive titles is required.
  • Coaching or teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience recruiting high school or college students preferred.
