Independence Community College – Associate Professor of Psychology

Independence Community College (ICC) is a small, rural, residential community college in southeast Kansas that serves approximately 1,000 full‑ and part‑time students each year. ICC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Position type:
Full‑time, 9‑month tenure‑track faculty position requiring flexible hours, including day, evening, and weekends. Desired start date:
August 2025. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, in accordance with the ICC Faculty Negotiated Agreement.

Position Summary

The Associate Professor of Psychology plays a critical role in delivering a well‑rounded liberal arts education by teaching undergraduate courses in Psychology. Instruction supports the college’s general education curriculum and Associate of Arts degree pathways. The position includes responsibilities such as course development and assessment, and active collaboration with colleagues within the Math and Science Division.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Psychology; or a master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate credits in the concentration from an accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Two or more years of community college teaching experience, high school teaching experience, or experience working with a diverse student body, preferred.
  • An educational philosophy in alignment with a small, rural comprehensive community college is a plus.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate courses as assigned.
  • Develop and provide written course syllabus with classroom policies, procedures, grading guidelines, and learning outcomes.
  • Develop curriculum, presentation materials, course materials, and examinations.
  • Use appropriate and up‑to‑date course materials, including learning objectives, textbooks, and supplementary teaching materials.
  • Provide a positive learning environment committed to ICC student success by being receptive to various learning modalities (e.g., online, video, accelerated, and hybrid).
  • Work with the instructional team to provide outcomes assessment, follow‑up, and improvement(s).
  • Ensure availability during posted office hours for student advisement and academic assistance.
  • Encourage student retention, continuity, progress in coursework and program, and student success.
  • Work with other instructors and college staff to promote ICC and the curriculum offerings.
  • Be fiscally responsible for assisting in budget development, budget implementation, and budget control for assigned department.
  • Assist in development of new programs, including funds development, recruitment, curriculum development and assessments.
  • Pursue continuous professional development to maintain and enhance teaching effectiveness by participating in in‑service trainings, workshops, seminars, conferences, and scholarly publications.
  • Contribute to the College’s shared governance by actively participating in committees, councils and related activities that support the development and advancement of the College’s mission and strategies initiatives.
  • General Responsibilities
  • Support external reporting requirements by providing information and input for accreditation, state, and governmental agencies, and by completing reports as needed.
  • Maintain availability based on the needs of the department and academic division.
  • Ensure all ICC property is secured.
  • Exemplify the ability to work with a broad student population.
  • Communicate effectively with sensitivity to student learning styles and developmental needs.
  • Validate responsible work habits through collaborative and collegial social interactions.
  • Adhere to general rules of safety, procedures, and ethical job standards.
  • Present expertise in content area and keep abreast of advancements.
