Responsibilities
Under direction, receives regular and 911 telephone calls and dispatches appropriate personnel to handle emergencies.
- Processes reports for prosecutors; maintains case, report, accident, complaint, insurance, and related files.
- Tests sirens, radios, and phones; checks validity of drivers licenses and vehicle tags.
- Submits crime information to law enforcement databases; performs additional duties as assigned.
Ability to speak clearly and concisely; ability to multitask and act quickly in emergencies; knowledge of the geography of the area; ability to type 35 w.p.m.; ability to listen to, follow, and communicate oral and written instructions; and ability to learn police procedures and practices.
Education and Experience:
Completion of high school or GED required; two years experience performing clerical tasks and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications preferred.
Must remain certified as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher, Emergency Fire Dispatcher, and Emergency Police Dispatcher; must complete and stay current with National Crime Information Center training; must be available to work nights, in shifts, overtime, and weekends.
Physical RequirementsLittle Physical Effort Is Required. Individual must be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time.
Working ConditionsWork is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
Salary RangeThe salary range for this position is $16.84 to $24.42 per hour plus benefits, depending on experience.
