POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse functions as a professional within their professional scope of practice as defined by the College of Nurse of Ontario and the RHPA. The Registered Nurse functions as a professional by utilizing the nursing process in the delivery of all critical care related therapies and nursing care needs for patients requiring Critical Care services. The Registered Nurse is responsible for incorporating critical care standards and competencies into nursing practice as outlined by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Critical Care Standards, the Canadian Association of Critical Care Nursing Standards, and the College of Nurses of Ontario.
As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse participates in ongoing research, patient advocacy, ongoing education, and the provision of direct care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
- A minimum of 2 years' current acute medical/surgical (or equivalent) related nursing experience is essential
- Basic arrhythmia interpretation preferred
- Applicants with current acute or critical care nursing experience will be given preference
- Current BCLS/HCP certification is required
- Current ACLS certification and Critical Care certification preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity and expertise in the care of seniors and their families
- Gentle Persuasive Approach training preferred
- Must have demonstrated an interest in ongoing education in Nursing. An interest and active participation in ICU research initiatives is an expectation. A willingness to learn special procedures as approved by the Hospital for Registered Nurses in the critical care area in keeping with the MOHLTC Critical Care Standards is an expectation. Maintaining certification(s) is a requirement
- Demonstrated ability to organize related activities, to remain flexible, adapt to crisis situations and rapid change and to function effectively in co-operation with all disciplines of the Health Care Team
- Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, communication, leadership, teamwork and assessment skills
- Applicants must be available for the total orientation program at the scheduled time
- Good attendance and work record is essential
- A resume regarding further education, special courses and relevant experience should accompany the application
