Applications for open positions are accepted at the Kansas Works Office and online at this website. Please note that department heads are required to live within Montgomery County, Kansas within six months of employment. All other City employees are required to live within a 90-mile radius of Independence, Kansas within six months of employment.

The City of Independence will accept applications at Kansas Works, 2615 W Main St, Suite 111, Independence, KS 67301, for seasonal maintenance work at Riverside Park and Ralph Mitchell Zoo, Central Park Sports Complex, and the Downtown Historic Business District.

This ad serves to hire temporary workers (June through October) that will work under the supervision and direction of the full-time park staff. Applicants will be responsible for watering newly planted trees and hanging baskets in the historic business district, trees at the Central Park Sports Complex, and all urns and flowers within Riverside Park and Ralph Mitchell Zoo.

• Ability to perform manual labor related to grounds and landscape maintenance.
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures and consistently lift over fifty pounds.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
• Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Final applicants will be required to pass a drug screening and background check.
