Under supervision, operate and maintain light and medium equipment including trucks, smaller front-end loaders, rollers, motor graders, street sweepers and related equipment.

• Install, repair, and locate water and sewer mains and lines
• Maintain operation of the water and wastewater treatment plants
• Repair streets, manholes and street signs
• Picks-up and disposes of trash and brush
• Reads, maintains, repairs, tests, and replaces water meters
• Train in operation of equipment
• Turn on and off water service
• Maintain and repair water pumps and service stations
• May supervise a small crew of laborers
• Perform additional duties as assigned

• Some knowledge of the materials, mechanical devices, tools, and techniques of maintenance and construction
• Ability to safely operate trucks and medium and heavy equipment
• Knowledge of methods and tools used to read, repair, and operate water meters
• Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations
• Ability to listen to, follow and communicate oral and written instructions
• Ability to supervise and work well with a small team

Completion of high school or GED required. Two years experience in construction, operating dump trucks or light equipment, or similar experience required.

• Current Kansas driver’s license
• Class B driver’s license
• Must be available to work nights, overtime, and weekends

Intense physical effort is required. The individual must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, grasp, speak, and listen for extended periods of time.

Work involves frequent exposure to unpleasant elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, loud noises, chemicals, etc.

Salary Range:
The starting salary for this position is $15.50 per hour*.
