About the PositionColumbia County Public Works seeks to hire an entry‑level to advanced Shop Foreman/Mechanic. The role includes planning, scheduling, directing, and evaluating the repair and servicing of county maintenance equipment and vehicles. The position requires a significant understanding of road maintenance equipment systems, electrical and mechanical testing equipment, diagnostic tools, computer applications, and a variety of hand, power, and shop tools.
New hires are required to obtain a Washington Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with endorsement N within the probationary period, which may be up to a year. Preference is given to applicants who already hold a Washington Class A CDL with an applicable license.
ApprenticeshipColumbia County welcomes apprenticeship with a mechanic. Candidates must be motivated, willing to work alongside an experienced mechanic, and eager to learn the ins and outs of fleet maintenance and repair. This hands‑on position offers the opportunity to develop valuable skills and knowledge toward a full Shop Foreman/Mechanic role.
Compensation & BenefitsThis bargaining unit position offers wages ranging from $29.20 to $30.99 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Applicants with experience from other municipal entities may qualify for a higher pay range at the employer’s discretion. New employees undergo a 6‑month to 1‑year probationary period. The role includes a competitive benefit package.
