St. Mary Catholic Church in Independence, Missouri is seeking to fill the part time position of Accounting Clerk/Bookkeeper. This position plays a vital role in helping manage the financial operations of the parish. The Accounting Clerk/Bookkeeper will assist with parish financial statements, budget reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, year-end reporting, and any audit requirements. This position reports to the Pastor.
Essential Duties- Assist Pastor in creating and managing the parish budget.
- Process accounts receivable and payable and corresponding general ledger entries.
- Make bank deposits.
- Track and monitor financial transactions.
- Enter financial data into accounting software.
- Reconcile all general ledger accounts, including payroll liabilities, etc.
- Record and reconcile parishioner contributions to general ledger.
- Send annual contribution statements to parishioners.
- Process weekly offertory deposits according to audit requirements.
- Prepare budget and financial reports for Pastor and Finance Council.
Skills and Abilities
- Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills – highly collaborative and an effective team member.
- Exercise planning and organizational skills and meet deadlines through problem‑solving and multi‑tasking.
- Handle confidential information with integrity.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Undergraduate degree in business, finance or accounting, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in accounting, bookkeeping or related field.
- Intermediate to advanced skill level in Quick Books or similar accounting software.
- Active Catholic in good standing is preferred, though familiarity with the Catholic understanding of ministry is required.
