Department Overview

Due to years of drought, extreme heat, and over 129 million dead trees, California faces an increased risk of catastrophic wildfires. These environmental challenges require PG&E to transform how it designs and operates the electric system.

To reduce wildfire risks and enhance safety, PG&E has implemented enhanced wildfire prevention strategies and strengthened its electrical infrastructure. A key component of this effort is the Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) Program, which temporarily de-energizes parts of the electric grid during extreme weather conditions to mitigate wildfire risk.

The PSPS Project Management Office (PMO) manages readiness and execution across multiple work streams, including:

  • PSPS program design and decision-making
  • Regulatory compliance and reporting
  • Training and operational readiness for PSPS events
  • Emergency Operations Center coordination
  • Stakeholder engagement with communities and regulators
Position Summary

The Strategic Analyst, Principal will support regulatory filings and strategic initiatives related to PSPS events. This role focuses on strategic planning, policy analysis, regulatory coordination, and program management.

The candidate will collaborate with regulators, internal stakeholders, and industry peers to support program initiatives while ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with company strategy.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning & Analysis
  • Develop strategies supporting programs and initiatives aligned with company goals.
  • Perform complex strategic analyses related to regulatory and operational programs.
  • Evaluate industry trends, customer needs, and business impacts.
Regulatory & Compliance Support
  • Assist with regulatory filings related to PSPS events.
  • Support development of testimony and documentation for regulatory bodies.
  • Provide data analysis and responses to regulatory data requests.
  • Work with Government Relations and regulatory teams on messaging and strategy.
  • Lead cross-functional strategic initiatives and complex projects.
  • Collaborate with leadership across departments up to the Executive Vice President level.
  • Provide guidance on program design, implementation, and performance improvement.
Process Improvement
  • Develop and implement new analytical methods, tools, and procedures.
  • Lead initiatives to improve regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Apply Lean practices and mentor team members on strategy development.
Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as a subject matter expert for regulatory filings and process improvement initiatives.
  • Represent the organization in discussions with regulators, industry groups, and external agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields or equivalent experience:
  • Economics
  • Statistics
  • Mathematics
  • Business
  • Finance
  • Public Policy
  • Physics
  • Other related disciplines
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate degree in Economics or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of relevant technical or regulatory experience
  • Experience in:
  • Utility industry or energy sector
  • Regulatory reporting or regulatory filings
  • Strategic analysis and program management
  • Cross-functional leadership
