Apply now to work in the Fort Osage School District for the  School Year. This position is for the  school year. Salary is based on the adopted salary schedule for the 25-26 school year at this time (starting salary = $45,200). We accept all previous years in certificated teaching roles as steps on the salary schedule. A New Teacher Mentor Program is available for all first and second year teachers.

Certification in 9-12 Social Studies is required.

Purpose Statement

The job of Teacher is undertaken to provide support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for developing student success in academics (e.g., reading, writing, language, math) or skills (e.g., art, music, physical education). The teacher supervises students within the classroom and other assigned areas; develops lesson plans, strategies, and delivers group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines;

collaborates with teachers, other professional staff, and administrators to meet student needs; and maintains open communication with parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.

Essential Functions
  • Adapts classroom work to provide students with instructional strategies and materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
  • Administers subject‑specific assessments and tests to evaluate students’ competencies.
  • Assesses student progress toward standards, expectations, and/or goals and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborates with other classroom teachers to implement established curriculum/individual student plans and ensure the success of assigned students.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and community resource organizations to improve overall student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
  • Counsels students to improve performance, attendance, problem‑solving techniques, and personal issues.
  • Demonstrates instructional methods required to perform classroom and/or subject‑specific assignments to provide an effective program addressing individual student requirements and/or success.
  • Develops and implements behavior plans to provide a safe learning environment.
  • Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, substitute teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to provide an effective classroom program and address individual student needs.
  • Instructs students and/or provides lesson plans for substitutes to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Maintains open communication with students, parents, and guardians regarding progress, expectations, concerns, and direction to reinforce classroom goals at home.
  • Maintains formal and informal data for all students in the building to ensure accurate student data.
  • Monitors students in various locations and professional development workshops (e.g., classroom, playground, field trips) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Participates in meetings and professional development workshops to convey and/or gather information required for performance.
  • Prepares written materials in collaboration with other staff to provide feedback, document student progress, and meet mandated requirements.
  • Reports incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain personal safety, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to education code, school policies, and all laws.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct issues to appropriate personnel.
