Job DescriptionPurpose Statement
The job of Middle School/High School Teacher is to support the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for developing student success in academics (e.g., language arts, mathematics, science, history, foreign language) and skills (e.g., art, music, physical education). Responsibilities include developing lesson plans and delivering group and/or individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines, supervising students, collaborating with staff and administrators, and responding to inquiries from students’ parents or guardians about instructional programs and progress.
This position reports to the Principal.
Essential Functions- Administers subject specific assessments, district and/or state tests (e.g., MAP) for assessing student competency levels and/or developing individual learning plans.
- Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for communicating expectations, student achievements, and methods for improvement.
- Analyze test data to enhance student achievement.
- Assess student progress toward objectives and provide feedback to students, parents, administration, or district specialists.
- Collaborate with professional learning communities, instructional staff, school personnel, parents, business partners, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
- Counsel students for performance, health status, problem-solving techniques, and personal issues.
- Demonstrate methods required for classroom and subject-specific assignments to provide an effective program addressing individual student requirements.
- Differentiates classroom work to provide instructional materials addressing individualized learning within established lesson plans.
- Direct para-professionals, volunteers, and/or student workers to support individual student needs.
- Facilitate student learning (e.g., creating a learning environment, integrating technology, arranging field trips, organizing age‑appropriate activities) to achieve success in academics, interpersonal, and daily living skills.
- Instruct students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
- Interact continually with students for education purposes.
- Maintain confidential and non‑confidential files and records (grades, test scores) for up‑to‑date information or historical reference, per guidelines.
- Manage student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitor students in classroom, campus grounds, field trips, clubs, sporting events, graduation, dances, etc., to provide a safe and positive environment.
- Participate in building and district meetings (PLC, staff, SAP, department) to convey and gather information.
- Prepare written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records, lesson plans, progress reports) to document student progress and meet requirements.
- Report incidents (fights, suspected abuse, substance abuse) to maintain student safety and adhere to policies.
- Respond to emergency situations to resolve safety concerns.
- Respond to inquiries from students, teachers, parents, administrators, etc., to resolve issues and provide information.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Skills – Apply assessment instruments, operate standard office equipment and software applications, and prepare and maintain accurate records.
Knowledge – Algebra/geometry; read technical information, compose documents, facilitate group discussions, analyze situations, and define issues; knowledge of codes, policies, regulations, laws, age‑appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, and behavioral management strategies.
