Certificated Paraprofessional-Recovery Room Grades 5-6 (26-27 School Year) Job Description
Must hold or be eligible for a Substitute Teaching Certificate through DESE (36 College credit hours required). In lieu of education, candidates may complete a 20‑hour Frontline Course through DESE and submit it with a high school diploma. Candidates may also pass the Para Praxis test through DESE.
Experience with children preferred. This position is at Fire Prairie Upper Elementary and works with students to support behavior and academic success. Position reports to the building principal.

The job of Paraprofessional – Recovery Room is to provide support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for overseeing students referred to the Recovery Room, maintaining a safe and quiet environment, assisting students in assessing their behavior, and providing information to teachers, parents and/or other personnel.
Essential Functions- Assist students with Recovery Room positive actions (e.g., think sheets, letters of apology, student success plans, etc.) to ensure actions are completed.
- Attend meetings (e.g., team meetings) to acquire and/or convey information related to job functions.
- Compile data for preparing reports.
- Maintain confidential and non‑confidential manual and electronic documents, files, and records (e.g., timesheets, student success plans, recovery visits) to provide accurate information in compliance with administrative guidelines.
- Monitor students during assigned periods (Recovery Room, cafeteria, etc.) to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
- Prepare written documents and reports (monthly and yearly) to communicate information to teachers, parents, and administration.
- Provide verbal and/or written feedback of observations to inform teachers and/or parents of students' progress.
- Report health and safety issues to the assigned administrator and appropriate agencies (e.g., fights, suspected child or substance abuse, inappropriate social behaviors) to maintain students' personal safety, a positive learning environment, and comply with regulatory requirements and guidelines.
- Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources (students, teachers, administrators, and/or parents) to solve problems, provide information, and/or direct to other sources.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School/Trade School degree preferred.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to affect the organization’s services.
Work EnvironmentThe job requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard‑free environment and a clean atmosphere.
