Title: Water Treatment Operator

Location: Independence, MO

Salary: $29.25 - $35.74 per hour

Schedule: 3x12 F‑SU (6 p‑6:30 a, Friday, Saturday, Sunday; 4 hours worked on Thursday or Monday)

Focus: The Water Treatment Operator is responsible for daily operational and maintenance work on industrial or neutralized explosives or pyrotechnic wastewater and water plant treatment systems, maintaining compliance with applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations while ensuring efficient operation of the wastewater treatment systems and managing environmental waste.

• Perform startup, operations, and shutdown of at least two treatment facilities, including the Water Plant.
• Draw and analyze samples, start and stop equipment, maintain adequate supplies of chemicals in hoppers or tanks, adjust, clean, lubricate and maintain treatment equipment such as pumps, clarifiers, filters, chemical feeders, and filter presses.
• Transport industrial and hazardous wastewater to the proper treatment facility.
• Perform general millwright and pipe fitting duties.
• Maintain proficiency in safety procedures.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must meet one of the following requirements:
  • One year of recent, relevant water treatment operations, plumbing and/or pipe fitting experience; or
  • Water treatment, pipe fitting or plumbing certificate or diploma from an accredited trade school or vocational school; or
  • Two years of recent experience in a position with mechanical duties; or
  • Relevant military maintenance education and/or experience in water treatment operations, plumbing and/or pipe fitting.
• Drinking Water Certification and/or DS2 State licensing certification preferred.
• Must have working knowledge of basic electrical, pipe fitting/plumbing, mechanical skills and abilities; demonstrate plumbing and mechanical repair skills.
• Must be proficient in using standard shop test equipment and able to learn specialized test equipment.
• Must have knowledge of motors and motor controllers.
• Must complete specific environmental training as required, including but not limited to Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC), HAZMAT, HAZCOM, Underground Storage Tank (UST), sampling, asbestos control, Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulation and decontamination of equipment.
• Ability and willingness to work weekends, including overtime.
• Must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain a Government driver's license.

• This position requires successful vetting as an Employee Possessor in accordance with U.S. Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
• This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and employment will be contingent on the candidate’s ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
• This position requires successful vetting for unescorted access in accordance with U.S. Army and Department of Defense access policies. To meet the government‑facility requirements, the candidate must be a U.S. citizen.
