Job DescriptionLove supporting other parents and sharing your breastfeeding journey? As a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor, you’ll use your lived experience to encourage, educate, and support pregnant and breastfeeding participants. You’ll provide one‑on‑one and group support in the clinic and by phone, helping families feel confident, informed, and supported every step of the way.
What You’ll Do- Provide peer counseling and breastfeeding support to pregnant and breastfeeding WIC participants in person and by phone.
- Help moms navigate common breastfeeding challenges using approved tools, education, and resources.
- Manage a monthly caseload by creating personalized contact plans that meet state guidelines.
- Track and document participant contacts accurately and confidentially.
- Assist with breast pump inventory, follow‑up, and coordination with clinic staff.
- Support clinic operations by answering phones, scheduling appointments, and sharing program information.
- Work closely with the WIC team, referring participants to supervisors or nutrition professionals when needs fall outside your scope.
- Travel to other WIC clinics as needed and adapt to changing schedules or workflows.
- Maintain a positive, supportive presence for participants, families, and coworkers.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be or have been a WIC participant who has breastfed for at least six months
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to build rapport with WIC participants, staff, and community partners
- Basic computer skills for daily data entry
- Bilingual competency
