Battalion Chief - Operations

The EMS Operations Battalion Chief is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly leadership position that reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Operations. This role is responsible for the daily coordination and supervision of assigned EMS personnel, ensuring the department’s operational readiness and consistent delivery of high-quality service.

• Associates degree required.
• Bachelor's degree in public safety leadership, EMS, or healthcare highly preferred.
• Board certification required within one (1) year of hire (CCEMTP, FP-C, CCP-C).
• One (1) year experience in an EMS supervisory role preferred.
• Two (2) year previous experience as an EMS Field Training Officer (FTO) preferred.
• Three (3) years previous experience as a paramedic preferred.

• Valid Missouri Class “F” driver's license.
• Valid Missouri Paramedic License.
• Must maintain continuous AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS Audit) within six (6) months of hire.
• Must have the following National Incident Management System certifications: ICSc
  100, ICSc
  200, IS700, IS800.
• Must obtain ICSc
  300, ICSc
  400 within one (1) year of hire.
• Must be currently certified through a standard Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), or similar standard.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Cole County Pre-Hospital Provider Certification.

• Responds to EMS calls and assists with coordination of patient care and manage on-scene EMS operations.
• Observe the performance of assigned EMT’s and Paramedics and keep the Training Division appraised of all concerns regarding quality improvement and patient care. Responsible for documenting and addressing any areas of concern or in need of improvement.
• Ensures that Cole County EMS policies and standards are adhered to.
• Continually evaluates EMS operational readiness, effectiveness of service, as well as overall outcomes. Keeps the Deputy Chief apprised of important developments or recommendations for improvement.
• Participates in regular staff meetings and provides input relative to EMS operations.
• Displays a positive, self-motivated, professional demeanor, and promotes the mission, vision of Cole County Emergency Services.
