Role

Purpose

The Armed Security Officer provides continuous patrols of the Barnes Jewish Hospital / St. Louis Children’s Hospital / Washington University Medical Campus, within St. Louis City, being attentive and alert to the safety and welfare of visitors, patients, volunteers, staff, employees, and hospital property. Interacts with the residents and visitors to St. Louis City as well as communicates with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

The following certifications must be obtained and maintained within 12 months of hire: ASP Baton or Taser, CPR/AED, CPI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Pressure Point Control Techniques, Armed Security Officer’s License.

Responsibilities
  • Individuals must be 21 years or older to work in this position.
  • Respond to an array of emergency and non-emergency situations within the Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and Washington University Medical Campus according to approved departmental protocol.
  • Prevent losses and damage by reporting irregularities, information, violations of policy and procedures.
  • Mitigate crisis situations, such as responding to disturbances, fires, crimes against persons and property. Maintain the organization’s stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements and interacting with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department as necessary.
  • Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities; interviewing witnesses; obtaining signatures.
  • Secure the premises and personnel; monitor surveillance equipment; inspect buildings, equipment and access points; permit entry into the hospital and related properties by continuous patrols.
  • Be able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner; this is an essential function of the job.
