A station mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing and verifying repairs on a fleet of Metro transit buses. Candidates must be proficient in diagnosing engines, transmissions/drive lines, air brakes, steering/suspension systems, and electrical systems. Other responsibilities include performing and documenting inspections, listing any defects found and repairing defects. Candidates must be able to effectively communicate details about diagnosis and repairs made to the buses.

• Diagnosing, repairing, and verifying repairs on a fleet of Metro transit buses.
• Diagnosing engines, transmissions/drive lines, air brakes, steering/suspension systems, and electrical systems.
• Performing and documenting inspections, listing defects found and repairing defects.
• Communicating specific details about diagnosis and repairs made to the buses.

• Ability to perform all duties in the station shop maintenance program, including minor repairs to seat cushions, seat backs, relining brakes, replacement of differentials, and transmissions.
• Capable of high-precision work.
• Ability to read diagrams, interpret drawings and shop manuals pertaining to buses.
• Ability to perform all inspection operations following written instructions.
• Diagnostic and repair skills in electrical circuits, including voltage regulators, relays, and wiring.
• Ability to adjust and replace hoses, brake components, chassis, air and hydraulic components, and change mounted tires.
• Ability to repair spindle kingpins, bushings, replace steering components, and adjust air conditioning units.
• Ability to perform body replacements (radiator, transmission, surge tanks, engine, A/C evaporator, passenger doors) and temporary body patch repairs.
• Ability to replace side and rear glass units.
• Welding limited to necessary maintenance, performed only by trained employees.
• Will be required to make road calls or exchanges when assignments are not available.
