The Educational Service Center of Northeast Ohio is seeking a Adolescent Literacy Specialist
TERM:
Full-time (205-day contract)
JOB SUMMARY:
Provide professional development, technical assistance, instructional coaching to build client district capacity to support the implementation of effective adolescent literacy instructional and assessment strategies across multiple grade levels and content areas. Provide leadership to clients in establishing effective instructional programs that lead to increased student achievement. The Adolescent Literacy Specialist will be required to effectively identify the needs of assigned schools in order to prioritize, schedule, organize, and provide technical assistance so that students in grades K-12 are able to close reading achievement gaps by aligning work to Ohio's Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement and Ohio's Coaching Model.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Master's degree (M.
A.) or higher. - Preferred candidates hold an ODE Administrative Specialist or appropriate Principal license or higher with a Reading endorsement
- Expertise in improving student learning through high-quality, evidence-based literacy strategies.
- Completion of a professional development program accredited by the International Dyslexia Association (IDA Accreditation or IDA Accreditation Plus).
- 5 years of successful classroom teaching that includes reading/literacy instruction in grades preschool- 12
- Experience in facilitation of high-quality professional development, instructional coaching, mentoring and professional learning communities that promote change specifically to language and literacy development.
- Experience in curriculum development and implementation.
- Completion of 18 hours of professional development in structured literacy
- Preferred candidates will have Certified Dyslexia or Reading Specialist;
Knowledge of Ohio's Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement, Science of Reading and how to apply it to improve students' literacy skills. - Experience designing and implementing district- or school-wide multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
- Knowledge and experience analyzing student and adult implementation data to drive instructional decision-making.
- Experience working with administrators to implement literacy initiatives.
- Experience participating in or facilitating the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP).
- Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a group process.
- Demonstrate ability to facilitate the implementation of instructional practices that increase student achievement.
- Demonstrate effective job-related skills that model effective integration of technology.
- Demonstrate competence with assisting others to appropriately integrate technology into the curriculum.
- Proficiency with standard functions within electronic applications such as MS Office (e.g. word processing, electronic spreadsheets), Google Suite, and e-mail.
- Proficiency with computers (PCs and/or MACs) to include desktop management, file management and operations, and working in a network environment.
- ODE issued certificate/license.
- Such alternative or additional qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

- Provide coaching, mentoring, and feedback to district literacy consultants and coaches.
- Provide ongoing professional learning and literacy consultation to member districts.
- Provide intensive literacy coaching and professional development aligned with Ohio's Coaching Model.
- Actively participate in work related to the goals and objectives of the Teaching and Learning Team.
- Support the Director of Teaching and Learning in developing online learning modules related to the topics of Dyslexia, Structured Literacy, and The Science of Reading.
- Leverage partnerships related to literacy with Higher Education Universities and Colleges.
- Collaborate with the Director of Teaching and Learning to draft articles related to literacy, professional development, and curriculum design to peer reviewed publications, professional associations, and respected websites.
- Create and maintain relationships with district staff, community and partners as related to assigned work.
- Identify needs of the districts and provide reports and statements of service agreements including coordination and/or delivery of professional development.
- Guide the use and interpretation of the Reading Tiered Fidelity Inventory and other data sources to inform literacy planning.
