Job Summary
We are seeking a Right‑of‑Way Engineer with 5 to 10 years of experience to join our Ohio office. In this role you will lead the preparation of right‑of‑way plans, plats, legal descriptions, and exhibits in accordance with Ohio Department of Transportation requirements and local agency standards. You will also perform boundary analysis, title research coordination, and provide engineering oversight for transportation‑related design elements impacting right‑of‑way.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the preparation of right‑of‑way plans, plats, legal descriptions, and exhibits in accordance with Ohio Department of Transportation requirements and local agency standards
- Perform and oversee boundary analysis, title research coordination, and resolution of complex property issues
- Provide engineering oversight for transportation‑related design elements impacting right‑of‑way (e.g., alignments, easements, drainage impacts)
- Sign and seal engineering and surveying documents in compliance with Ohio Board of Engineers and Surveyors regulations
- Manage and mentor survey and right‑of‑way staff, including technicians and junior professionals
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, utility companies, and public agencies to facilitate right‑of‑way acquisition and project delivery
- Review survey data, plats, and legal descriptions for accuracy and completeness
- Support project scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning for right‑of‑way‑related tasks
- Assist with proposals, scope development, and client relationship management
- Other duties as assigned
- Prequalification by ODOT as Right of Way Designer and/or Reviewer
- Minimum of 4+ years of progressive experience in right‑of‑way engineering and/or land surveying
- Strong knowledge of Ohio right‑of‑way procedures, boundary law, and survey practices
- Familiarity with utility coordination and easement acquisition processes
- Experience with transportation projects and public agency coordination (ODOT experience strongly preferred)
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., Open Roads Designer, AutoCAD Civil 3D) and Trimble Business Center
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related field
- Active licensure as a Professional Surveyor (PS) in the State of Ohio
Annual compensation ranges from $95,000 to $115,000 based on experience, certifications, and regional market standards.
