Job Description & How to Apply Below
As a Designer/Drafter on the New Product Development team, you will transform initial concepts into complete, production-ready product designs. You will collaborate closely with engineers and cross-functional partners to move highly customizable electrical-mechanical products from idea through prototype, pilot, and into manufacturing. Your ability to produce precise, well-organized documentation and models that align with industry standards and internal requirements will directly influence product performance, manufacturability, and overall project success.
Responsibilities Include
+ Partner with the Lead Project Engineer and project team members to translate product requirements into prototype and pilot designs.
+ Utilize 3D CAD software, such as PTC Creo, to develop accurate digital models that support faster and more efficient development cycles.
+ Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings from concepts, sketches, or legacy designs, with a strong focus on manufacturability and production feasibility.
+ Design sheet metal components using both 2D and 3D tools, ensuring proper tolerances and fit are achieved for reliable assembly.
+ Recommend efficient assembly and fabrication methods, optimizing designs for cost, manufacturability, and ease of production.
+ Support technical and design reviews by presenting or assisting in the presentation of design models and documentation, ensuring alignment with internal processes and standards.
+ Prepare complete documentation packages for release to manufacturing, including drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and machine files.
+ Manage and update bills of materials to accurately reflect design changes and ensure smooth handoff to manufacturing.
+ Interpret engineering sketches and technical specifications to produce clear, accurate models and drawings.
+ Collaborate with a team of engineers on projects that typically range from 6 months to 2 years in duration, contributing to the development of highly customizable load bank products.
Essential Skills
+ 8+ years of experience developing and creating new products, preferably in the electrical-mechanical product space.
+ Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, including experience with tools such as PTC Creo.
+
Experience with both 2D and 3D modeling software for mechanical design and documentation.
+ Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and new product development processes.
+ Solid knowledge of manufacturing processes related to electrical and mechanical products.
+ Proven ability to design sheet metal components with appropriate tolerances and specifications.
+ Strong understanding of bill of materials (BOM) preparation, management, and change control.
+ Ability to accurately interpret engineering sketches, drawings, and technical specifications.
+ Attention to detail and ability to create accurate, well-organized engineering documentation that meets internal and industry standards.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience working on highly customizable electrical-mechanical products, such as load banks, is beneficial.
+ Experience collaborating within multi-disciplinary engineering teams of 10 or more members.
+ Comfort presenting design models and documentation in technical and design review settings.
+ Ability to recommend improvements in assembly and fabrication methods to enhance cost-effectiveness and manufacturability.
+ Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage documentation packages across prototype and pilot phases.
