Job DescriptionJob Title: Curriculum and Instruction Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA)
Reports To: Director of Curriculum and Instruction
FTE: 1.0
Focus: K-2 Literacy
Location: Central School District 13J, District Office
The Curriculum and Instruction TOSA will support the district’s assessment and literacy systems, principally in grades K-2. The TOSA will work directly with teachers and administrators to provide support around collaborative structures such as PLCs and data teams within the RTI structure, interim assessment support, data analysis, materials implementation, and related professional development. The TOSA will work out of the District Office under the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to ensure district-wide systems are created and maintained that improve student learning.
EssentialJob Functions
- Instruction
- Collaborate with teachers to implement evidence-based instructional practices that enhance student learning and achievement focused on alignment of Tier I and Tier II instruction and assessment practices
- Staff Development
- Design and oversee professional learning to promote continuous improvement in literacy development
- Train and support implementation of interim assessments
- Train and support implementation of integrated, content-based literacy units
- Coaching
- Support PLC and data team meetings by modeling questioning strategies regarding assessment information and instructional practice
- Provide coaching support in literacy as requested by building and district leaders
- Assessment
- Train and support interim assessments
- Model analysis of student work to inform next steps as essential component of the PLC process
- Analyze student performance data, identify areas for improvement, and work with principals and teachers to develop actionable plans to respond
- Prepare district, school, and grade level reports to share with stakeholders
- Collaboratively review school progress with district stakeholders in order to review systems, celebrate achievement and problem solve where appropriate
- Additional Support
- Ensure instructional materials are delivered as directed
- Support HDT
- Collaborate to enhance efforts to improve district wide systems including MTSS, PLCs, and other district initiatives
Education: Must be highly qualified as defined by state/federal rules and /or board policies. Active TSPC Teaching License. Reading endorsement.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in grades K-2 preferred. Understanding / experience in teaching and intervening in reading and writing in Spanish. Bilingual preferred.

Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one, small group situations to students and other school staff. Ability to verbally respond to inquiries from students, teachers, and leaders. Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Reasoning Ability: Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Skills and Abilities:
Able to appropriately communicate with students, teachers, parents and members of the community. Ability to exercise good judgment, work in a dynamic environment, and appropriately react to a wide spectrum of behaviors of students.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Ability to obtain a valid CPR/First Aid card, blood borne pathogen training, child abuse, sexual conduct and any other District required training.
