Position OverviewLHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking an experienced Payroll Tax Expert for a 6-month contract assignment starting July 1st. This role will support high-volume, multi-state payroll tax operations across 35+ states, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timely processing. The ideal candidate has strong experience in large or complex organizations and deep knowledge of payroll tax requirements in key states including New York, Florida, California, and Texas.
Scopeof Work Phase 1 (First 90 Days):
Workday Payroll Tax Projects
- Lead and support Workday payroll tax initiatives, including configuration, optimization, and validation
- Partner with payroll and HRIS teams to ensure accurate system setup and functionality
- Identify and resolve tax configuration issues and reporting discrepancies
- Support testing and implementation of payroll tax processes within Workday
Multi-State Payroll Tax Operations
- Manage payroll tax processes across 35+ states, including complex jurisdictions
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations in NY, FL, CA, and TX
- Oversee filings, payments, reconciliations, and adjustments
- Respond to tax notices, audits, and inquiries
- Process and validate high-volume, multi-state payroll tax calculations and filings
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Oversee tax registration, remittance, and reconciliation activities
- Research and resolve payroll tax discrepancies and employee tax issues
- Manage tax notices, audits, and agency communications
- Partner cross-functionally with payroll, HR, HRIS, and finance teams
- Maintain accurate documentation and data integrity across systems
- Utilize Workday for payroll tax reporting and compliance tracking
- Identify process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- 3+ years of payroll tax experience in a high-volume, multi-state environment
- Experience supporting payroll tax operations across 35+ states
- Hands‑on Workday experience (configuration, reporting, or tax processing)
- Knowledge of payroll tax requirements in NY, FL, CA, and TX
- Experience working in a large organization or payroll services environment
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Experience with tax filings, reconciliation, and issue resolution
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience supporting payroll tax audits and agency responses
- Prior contract or consulting experience
- Exposure to additional systems such as UKG
- Experience driving payroll tax process improvements
- Remote role supporting U.S.
-based operations - Occasional onsite work may be required based on business needs
- High level of accountability due to the critical nature of payroll tax compliance
- Collaborative work environment across payroll, HR, HRIS, and finance teams
