The Ameri Corps Construction Specialist will contribute to the development and rehabilitation of affordable housing. This position will work at the direction of the Vice President of Construction and is a 12-month service position beginning August 1, 2024, 37.5 hour/week.

Construction Duties:

• Participate in the construction, renovation, and repair of affordable housing units
• Perform a variety of skilled and unskilled construction tasks including framing, drywall, painting, flooring, roofing, and finishing
• Ensure all work complies with local building codes and standards
• Assist in planning and scheduling construction activities, ensuring projects are completed on time
• Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure smooth workflow
• Perform site visit for pre-construction evaluation
• Collect cost details for rehabilitation jobs in a timely manner

• Maintain accurate records of work progress, materials used, and hours served
• Assist in preparing and submitting permit applications and ensuring all necessary permits are obtained for construction projects
• Serve as a point of contact for project updates, communicating regularly with team members
• Coordinate warranty matters

• Experience in construction, carpentry, or related fields
• Strong organizational and administrative skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proficiency in using construction tools and equipment
• Excellent communication skills
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Skilled in utilizing Buildertrend software
• Commitment to the mission of providing affordable housing to those in need

• Develop and enhance construction skills through hands-on experience and mentorship

Office locations in London and Monticello. Job sites are located throughout Highlands Housing's service area, with sites typically within an hour of offices in Kentucky.
