Food for all Futures (youth students)

International Programs at University of Toronto New College seeks instructors to teach a course in the International Summer Academy from April 27th to May 15th, 2026.

Course Description

Working within a Global Citizenship Educational framework, and focusing on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UN SDG2 Zero Hunger, participants will use design thinking to explore and generate solutions to a problem affecting our global community. Participants will gain insight into food policy analysis, agricultural practices, supply chain resilience, and community-based hunger solutions offered in differing global spaces. Using case studies, participants will investigate the interconnectedness of local, regional, and world-wide contributors to both maintaining and breaking down barriers to food security.

By the end of the course, participants will present initiatives to secure equitable food access, reduce waste, and protect natural resources for future generations while considering the role of AI and technology in these initiatives. This course includes academic research, class discussions, problem-solving, and oral presentations.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Preparation and teaching of course (e.g. adapting and delivering pre-existing materials, facilitating and grading student work, etc.) aligned with the program curriculum framework
  • Maintaining timely and accurate records of student attendance and achievement, and submitting a written evaluation for each student
  • Collaborating with other instructors, when necessary
  • Preparing for and participating in the graduation ceremony at the end of the course
  • Other reasonable tasks as assigned by the Coordinator and/or Academic Directors

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have, or be in the process of completing, a graduate degree closely related to the course subject area (or extensive experience teaching related course content) and must have experience teaching undergraduate or high school students whose first language is not English.

Preferred Qualifications

Training in teaching students who speak English as an additional language and experience teaching international youth (15-18 years old). Experience teaching a global citizenship course to youth students in the Pre-University program is preferred.
