Details: The Willow Creek Middle School Band Director is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, sequential instrumental music program for students in grades 6-8. This position includes instruction in beginning, intermediate, and advanced band, jazz band, and adaptive music, as well as leading extracurricular performance opportunities such as pep band and solo & ensemble preparation. The Band Director fosters musical growth, collaboration, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for music while supporting the academic and social-emotional development of middle school learners.
Additional Information:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teach instrumental band courses for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, differentiated by skill level and developmental readiness.
- Provide instruction for jazz band, emphasizing improvisation, ensemble skills, and genre-specific techniques.
- Design and implement an adaptive music program that ensures equitable access and meaningful participation for students with diverse learning needs.
- Develop lesson plans aligned to state music standards and district curriculum expectations.
- Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies and provide timely feedback to students and families.
- Direct and supervise after-school pep band performances in support of school events and athletics.
- Prepare students for solo and ensemble participation, including repertoire selection, coaching, and adjudication readiness.
- Plan, rehearse, and conduct concerts and performances throughout the school year.
- Coordinate logistics for performances, including scheduling, communication, and student supervision.
- Manage and maintain musical instruments, equipment, and inventory.
- Select appropriate music and instructional materials that support technical growth and musical expression.
- Collaborate with administration and colleagues to support scheduling, recruitment, and retention of band students.
- Promote a positive and inclusive band culture that encourages student engagement and pride in the program.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, administrators, and staff.
- Collaborate with other music educators and related service providers to support student success.
- Participate in professional development and contribute to school and district initiatives.
- Uphold school policies, procedures, and expectations for student safety and supervision.
