Position: Professor

We are seeking a researcher or practitioner who aims to develop a practical approach to disaster risk reduction studies by conducting multi-layered analyses of the responses of individuals and organizations in light of lessons learned from domestic and international disasters, and by bridging academic insights with local communities, municipalities, and other organizations. We particularly value the following qualities:

• A proven track record of incorporating the results of research and practical experience into national and municipal recovery and disaster risk reduction plans.
• A proven track record of working on-site in disaster-affected areas as a researcher or practitioner, collaborating with stakeholders—including residents, government agencies, and businesses—to formulate disaster risk reduction and recovery plans and address their challenges.
• A proven track record of research and practice aimed at building a resilient society, particularly regarding preparedness for disasters during peacetime and collaboration with stakeholders such as local residents, government agencies, businesses, and the media.
• Has a track record of initiatives to enhance community resilience through the participation of voluntary disaster risk reduction organizations and similar groups.
• Has a track record of research and practical experience in passing on lessons learned from disasters to the next generation and other regions, and in embedding these lessons as part of the collective social memory.
• Has a track record of engaging in disaster risk reduction education and awareness-raising activities in schools and communities.

In addition, we are seeking a person who has a track record of providing lectures and research guidance in the field of disaster science to undergraduate and graduate students.

Payment will be made in accordance with the Tohoku University’s regulations of annual salary system.
