This position is responsible to manage a caseload of high-risk students by providing counseling support to assist them in meeting educational and life goals. This position provides counseling and/or proactive and developmental advising services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Execute assigned ongoing responsibilities in the student services functional area on a timely basis.
- Provide crisis intervention and short-term solution-based counseling for students. Provide referrals to appropriate human service and community agencies.
- Provide educational programming and workshops for students on topics related counseling and academic success of students.
- Develop an individualized success plan and coordinate support services to help with student retention.
- Develops a strong working knowledge of the specific college policies, procedures, and practices applicable to the student services area and to the responsibilities of the position.
- Executes assigned ongoing responsibilities in the student services functional area on a timely basis.
- Provides academic advising to students.
- Establishes and maintains open communication with students and faculty.
- Develops a working knowledge of the various academic programs offered by the college.
- Provides referrals to community agencies when appropriate.
- Utilize professional skills in counseling students on either an individual or group basis to students who are academically at risk and economically disadvantaged and those who have been determined high risk of not completing a program of study.
- Monitor and evaluate the progress of program participants and high-risk case load.
- Complete special projects designed to meet the needs of students and the student services area.
- Serve as a resource to faculty and staff in matters concerning student growth and development.
- Establish and maintain open communication with faculty, administration and departmental staff.
- Function as an active member of the student services team; and provide creative professional input to the various student development programs and services, as appropriate.
- Serve as a liaison between program participants, staff, and outside social service agencies. Compile data, maintain student program records and complete reports as required.

- Enhance professional knowledge by keeping current with emerging practices; monitor developing trends; integrate new technologies as applicable.
- Maintain up-to-date with professional credentials, best practices and current disciplines including continued educational requirements through certifications, seminars, training programs, etc.
- Maintain and develop work related knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the job through professional and cross training opportunities.
- Travel to other locations as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated knowledge of counseling process and related activities.
- Demonstrated expertise and working knowledge of technical principles, theories and concepts in field of specialization.
- Ability to handle sensitive and complex issues consistently, confidentially and professionally.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and manage multiple tasks in a constantly changing work environment while paying attention to detail.
- Ability to independently make decisions.
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a diverse population.
- Ability to consistently provide excellent customer service.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE AND /OR TRAINING
- Master’s degree in Counselor Education, School Counseling, Professional Counseling, or related counseling field required.
- Valid driver’s license required
The successful candidate will be required to obtain/provide the following clearances prior to hire:
- PA Child History clearance
- PA Criminal Record Check clearance
- FBI Federal Criminal History Record
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE AND /OR TRAINING
- Related work experience in higher education preferred.
- Prior work experience must have met or exceeded appropriate work standards.

- Occasional lifting up to 20lbs
