QUALIFICATIONS:

The principal of Porter County Career Center should:

  • have or be eligible for Indiana Secondary Administration and Supervision License;
  • have or consider pursuing a CTE Director license;
  • have a minimum of five years' successful teaching experience, CTE instruction is helpful;
  • have demonstrated superior ability to work with peers, supervisory staff, parents and students;
  • possess characteristics which represent a positive public relations image;
  • have demonstrated a positive understanding of the educational needs of the career and technical education student;
  • have the ability to make the area career center an attractive, pleasant, and productive place for working and learning;
  • have recognized and demonstrated good teaching-learning classroom environment;
  • have an understanding of the career and technical education curriculum; as well as, the comprehensive high school curriculum;
  • Have demonstrated leadership qualities;
  • Have training and interest in education for special needs children;
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO:

Executive Director of Career and Technical Education and/or designated representative for the

performance of all assigned duties.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school;
  • Assists the CTE Director in the overall administration of the school;
  • Monitor and oversee designated budgetary line items;
  • Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports;
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other documents as assigned;
  • Works with various school members of the central administrative staff on school problems, such as transportation and special services;
  • Assist the CTE Director to keep superintendents or appropriate central office administration and/or building principals informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as routine matters related to the administrator's ability;
  • Articulates career and technical education State standards to staff and monitors implementation;
  • Keeps abreast of current research/best practices and disseminates information to teaching staff;
  • Assists in facilitating and monitoring the Workplace Specialist licensing and mentoring programs;
  • Enforces laws, regulations, student guide, Board Policy Manual, and other policies;
  • Maintains active relationship with students, parents, and partner school personnel;
  • Maintain school principal's Advisory Committee,
  • Assists in the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instructional program;
  • Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the career and technical education curriculum;
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of students;
  • Assist in establishing guides for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline;
  • Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, and attends school-sponsored activities and functions;
  • Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students;
  • Assumes responsibility for his or her own professional growth and development;
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession;
  • Supervises professional, paraprofessional, and support personnel attached to the school, as assigned;
  • Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, mentoring, and evaluation of the school's personnel;
  • Orients newly assigned staff members and assist in the development, as appropriate;
  • Evaluates and counsels staff members regarding their individual and group performance, as assigned;
  • Conducts meeting of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school;
  • Assists in the in-service orientation and training of teachers, with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.
