Structural Steel​/Miscellaneous Steel Estimator

Project Estimating Responsibilities

• Review architectural and structural drawings, specifications, and documents to prepare accurate material take-offs.
• Quantify shop and detailing hours for fabrication.
• Evaluate bid drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine scope of work.
• Communicate with General Contractors during bid phases and negotiate qualifications.
• Develop detailed project proposals and participate in bid negotiations.
• Assist project management with pricing on major revisions.
• Coordinate with subcontractors to obtain and verify quotes.
• Maintain knowledge of industry standards, materials, and construction techniques.
• Occasionally hand-deliver bid proposals.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience estimating structural and/or miscellaneous steel.
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field preferred.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting drawings and specifications.
• Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and industry standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel preferred.
• Experience with Tekla Power Fab preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Preferred:
  • Miscellaneous steel estimating experience.
  • Project management or steel detailing experience.
