City engineer, Environmental Engineer

Incumbent serves as City Engineer and directs all Public Works projects as prescribed by statute.

• Directs and supervises engineering plans for construction and maintenance of all Public Works projects.
• Serves as technical advisor on Review Committee for Board of Zoning.
• Supervises and directs the work of all department staff.
• Attends public meetings upon request of Mayor or Board of Works Director, as technical advisor.
• Prepares and administers the department budget.
• Answers inquiries and complaints by general public and inquiries of other departments on matters related to infrastructure maintenance.
• Prepares street paving schedule.
• Must attend conferences with State and Federal Officials concerning Engineering Standards and Environmental Maintenance Standards.
• Serves as City’s ADA co‑coordinator.
• Oversees the work of all contractors on Public Works projects.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

• Must be a professional engineer registered in the State of Indiana.
• Must have, at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Must have a professional engineering license registered in the State of Indiana.
• Must have five (5) or more years experience in the civil engineering field with at least two (2) years in a leadership position. A Master’s degree may substitute for one (1) year experience.
• Must have a valid Driver’s License.

• Incumbent applies a wide variety of rules, laws, and professional engineering knowledge to coordinate the operations of Engineering Department.
• Errors are not readily apparent through supervisor review and may result in substantial loss of City monies and violations of Federal Standards Act by Environmental Agency.

• Supervises City engineering personnel and plans and coordinates all construction and maintenance activities.

• Must communicate tactfully with co‑workers and general public.
• Reports directly to Mayor and Board of Public Works.

• Work is generally performed in modern office environment.
• Occasionally must conduct on‑site project inspections.
