Role Overview

The Mechanical Integrity Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance of fixed equipment within the Ultem Manufacturing units. This role develops, implements, and maintains the site’s Mechanical Integrity (MI) program in alignment with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and company standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the Ultem Mechanical Integrity program in alignment with Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and company standards.
  • Manage programs and projects to improve asset reliability of fixed asset systems of piping, tanks, vessels, silos, bins, heat exchangers, pressure relief devices and structures.
  • This role will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineers, and Contractors to provide leadership, oversight and technical support for development of inspection and remediation plans for piping, tanks, pressure relief device and vessels systems while minimizing operational disruption.
  • Lead or support root cause investigations for equipment failures and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Responsible for supporting inspection, non‑destructive examination, preventative and predictive maintenance processes while constantly striving for 100% reliability/uptime of equipment & operating systems. Methods to attack this include utilizing the RCA methodology in determining root cause, contributing factors, & corrective actions fitness‑for‑service assessment and risk‑based inspection (RBI) methodology to drive further development of the inspection program.
  • Review & approve all fabrication repair, alteration, replacement decisions and plans for piping, tanks, pressure vessels and pressure relief devices.
  • Manage and oversee QA/QC of all fabrication repair, alteration and fabrication of piping, tanks, pressure vessels & pressure relief devices.
  • Responsible for identifying opportunities to create and deliver projects/programs to continuously improve the site’s Mechanical Integrity program.
  • Provide engineering support for maintenance activities, turnarounds, and capital projects involving mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for inspections, repairs, and compliance records within asset management systems.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify reliability improvements, reduce downtime, and extend asset life.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards such as API, ASME, NBIC and OSHA PSM requirements.
Qualifications
  • BS in Engineering required:
    Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical will all be considered.
  • 3 years+experience in a manufacturing environment,preferablypetrochemicalindustry.
  • Outstanding mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, collaborate, and influence a diverse group of coworkers and contractors in operations, technical, maintenance crafts, and leadership roles.
  • Certifications in API 510, API 570, API 653, and NACE CIP are preferred.
  • Working knowledge of API RP 571, API 579, 580, and 581 is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Indiana Boiler and Pressure Vessel Rules, NBIC NB23 codes, ASME Codes and Standards is preferred (structural steel, tanks, vessels, heat exchangers, piping).
  • Knowledge of welding processes and static equipment repair techniques is preferred (structural steel, tanks, vessels, heat exchangers, piping).
  • Knowledge of visual and non‑destructive examination methods is preferred.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain a positive working relationship with the Indiana Boiler and Pressure Vessel Board and jurisdictional boiler and pressure vessel inspectors.
  • Able to read, write, perform basic mathematics, competent with computer business software, provide clear/ concise written & verbal communication.
  • Must be a self‑starter with the capability to facilitate discussions.
  • Deliver results within necessary timeframe.
  • Create and implement programs to solve problems and produce results.
  • Direct and influence activities of others to accomplish a goal.
