Overview

Lead a team of controls design professionals supporting complex industrial automation projects from concept through completion. This leadership opportunity combines technical expertise with people management, driving engineering excellence, process improvement, and high-quality project execution in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.

Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a team of Controls Designers and Senior Controls Designers.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team culture.
  • Support employee onboarding, training, career development, and performance management.
  • Identify technical skill gaps and implement ongoing development opportunities.
Project & Resource Management
  • Plan departmental workload, staffing priorities, and project assignments.
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule while meeting customer expectations and quality standards.
  • Balance short-term project demands with long-term departmental growth and resource planning.
  • Coordinate closely with project managers and cross-functional teams to support successful project execution.
Engineering Oversight
  • Provide technical leadership for electrical controls design and industrial automation projects.
  • Review and approve electrical drawings, design packages, documentation, and release packages for accuracy and completeness.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for complex controls design challenges.
  • Oversee component selection, standardization initiatives, engineering libraries, and design databases.
Quality, Compliance & Process Improvement
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Maintain departmental design standards, procedures, and documentation practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on engineering quality, workflow efficiency, and standardization.
  • Promote consistency across projects through best practices and process optimization.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with engineering, manufacturing, panel fabrication, project management, and operations teams to resolve technical issues and improve project outcomes.
  • Represent the Controls Design department during internal planning meetings and customer discussions.
  • Support strategic initiatives that enhance engineering capabilities and operational performance.
Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, or managing technical engineering or design teams.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial automation, electrical controls, and control panel design.
  • Ability to effectively balance technical leadership with people management responsibilities.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to satisfy pre-employment screening requirements.

Preferred

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field with six (6)+ years of relevant experience; or Associate degree in a technical discipline with eight (8)+ years of related experience.
  • Previous leadership experience within an engineering or controls design environment.
  • Experience with industrial automation design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar platforms.
  • Working knowledge of electrical control panel standards and applicable industry codes.
  • Experience developing engineering standards, improving workflows, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing, industrial automation, systems integration, or machine controls environments is highly preferred.
