Job Summary

We’re looking for our next star Hydrographer. Based in picturesque Gowrie Park, you’ll explore some of Tasmania’s most spectacular and remote locations while working with industry‑leading technology to collect the critical data that powers Hydro Tasmania’s renewable energy.

About the Role

As a Hydrographer, you’ll collect, analyse and maintain critical hydrometric data that supports operational decision‑making, flood forecasting, regulatory compliance and asset management. Reporting to the Remote Monitoring Supervisor, you’ll enjoy a balance of field‑based hydrographic work with technical troubleshooting and data processing. You will be a leader in safety with an eye for detail whilst contributing to project delivery and mentoring of junior team members.

This role offers variety and autonomy across a diverse range of field and technical activities. Salary range $94,400 – $118,561 plus super

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high‑quality hydrometric data through monitoring, analysis and fault identification.
  • Install, operate, test and commission remote monitoring equipment across Hydro Tasmania sites.
  • Effectively manage personal workload, priorities and field commitments to deliver quality outcomes, meet deadlines and respond to changing operational needs.
  • Mentor junior team members and drive continuous improvement in hydrographic standards and monitoring performance.
Skills & Experience
  • Diploma in Hydrography (or equivalent) and a Coxswain qualification or willingness to obtain.
  • Hydrographic field experience, including installation and maintenance of monitoring equipment.
  • Strong fault‑finding, testing, diagnostics and technical reporting capabilities.
  • Ability to mentor team members, manage workflows and contribute to asset management and reliability outcomes.
  • Ability to swim and perform a range of physical tasks in changing outdoor conditions, including working in and around water environments and at times in remote areas.
