Overview

The Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist supports the implementation of EHS programs to reinforce a safety-first culture, prevent injuries and environmental incidents, and ensure compliance with applicable EHS regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Support and implement organization safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and zero-incident work environment, including compliance with safety policies by all staff, contractors, and visitors.
  • Communicate safety issues, concerns, and policy changes to all plant personnel; conduct safety and regulatory training for facility personnel, visitors, and contractors as needed.
  • Inspect assigned facility areas to ensure compliance with SHE policies and applicable local, state/provincial, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Provide documentation and oversight for site-specific regulatory programs, including OSHA-related requirements.
  • Collect, maintain, and organize regulatory records.
  • Track injuries and equipment damage events.
  • Assist management with accident investigations to identify causes and determine prevention strategies for the future.
  • Support environmental sustainability initiatives at the assigned facility.
  • Support enforcement of policies and procedures to reduce or eliminate high-potential exposures.
  • Support the Loss Prevention Control inspection process with emphasis on fire prevention and fire protection equipment.
  • Execute response plans in the event of an environmental emergency.
  • Support the implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) programs at the location for solvents, hydrogen, ammonia, and chlorine.
  • Coordinate workers’ compensation claims in conjunction with insurance companies or service providers.
  • Implement fire protection and security systems to protect property from loss.
Qualifications
  • Degree preferred or up to 3 years of safety or environmental experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience in improving Serious Injury/Fatality (SIF) potential incidents and High Potential Exposures (HPEs) is preferred.
  • Experience applying EHS standards, regulatory compliance, and promoting a safe working environment is preferred.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills with the ability to influence others.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Knowledge of EHS standards and regulatory compliance to promote a safe working environment.
