Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer with strong Emerson DeltaV Batch expertise and Python programming skills to support a high-profile pharmaceutical automation program. This role will work within the Program Technical Office (PTO), collaborating with automation teams, system integrators, and cross-functional stakeholders to develop standardized automation solutions, reusable software components, and batch automation strategies for GMP manufacturing systems.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with DeltaV Batch configuration, ISA-88 batch architecture, and Python-based software development, along with a solid understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing, GMP compliance, and computer system validation.

Key Responsibilities

• Support automation engineering activities across multiple technical work streams within the Program Technical Office.
• Collaborate with Hybrid Node Automation teams, project engineers, and System Integrators throughout design, development, testing, and implementation phases.
• Develop and maintain standardized automation philosophies, engineering guidelines, templates, and reusable software components.
• Configure, enhance, and maintain Emerson DeltaV Batch applications, including recipes, phases, equipment modules, and control modules.
• Contribute to the development of a Python-based recipe builder and other automation software tools.
• Review automation designs and System Integrator deliverables to ensure compliance with project standards and technical requirements.
• Prepare and maintain automation documentation, including functional specifications, design documents, testing protocols, and engineering deliverables.
• Partner with Automation, Process Engineering, Manufacturing, CSV, Digital Plant, Quality, and Validation teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), commissioning, qualification, validation, and startup activities.
• Troubleshoot automation issues and provide technical support during project execution and implementation.
• Ensure automation solutions comply with GMP regulations, change control procedures, and validation requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of automation engineering experience within pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences manufacturing.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Emerson DeltaV Batch DCS.
• Strong knowledge of ISA-88 Batch Control, including:
• Batch recipes
• Equipment Modules
• Control Modules
• Phases
• Batch configuration
• Practical experience developing automation utilities or applications using Python.
• Experience supporting GMP-regulated manufacturing environments.
• Working knowledge of:
• Computer System Validation (CSV)
• Change Control
• FDA cGMP regulations
• Strong technical writing, documentation, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external System Integrators.
