Call-: Costume Designer, Coffee Shop Musical

leo&hyde are a Manchester-based musical theatre company. We're a small and friendly team, who get excitable about new music, theatre and technology.

The Coffee Shop Musical is a site-specific musical, set in and about an independent coffee shop - but told from the perspective of AI narrators. We’ve had two weeks of enthusiastically received performances in Manchester, and are looking for a costume designer to help us upgrade some of the costumes in the show.

The characters mostly wear normal everyday costumes that we’ve already sourced - but half-way through there’s a shift where the characters become online personas:
Tinder profiles, trolls, cats - and the Spirit of Procrastination itself.

In performances so far, we’ve used morph suits (as you can see here), which are entertaining and simple. However, we’re looking for a designer to concoct an entertaining design that is more original - it should be quicker and easier to put on than a morph suit (there are very tight costume changes), but even more fun, original and true to the post-internet / sci-fi nature of the show.

In future runs, there may be opportunities to further develop the costumes on a larger budget.
