Group Benefits Account Manager
Position Summary:
The Group Benefits Account Manager is responsible for the day-to-day servicing and ongoing maintenance of group benefits client accounts. This role manages renewals, supports retention efforts, and ensures a high level of client satisfaction through proactive service, strong carrier coordination, and effective communication. The Account Manager works closely with Producers and internal teams to support the delivery of benefit solutions, including marketing and placement of renewal business when needed.
Success in this role requires strong technical knowledge of group benefits products, exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to providing outstanding client service.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and service an assigned book of Group Benefits accounts, ensuring consistent and timely client support.
- Support Producers by transitioning accounts after sale and handling ongoing servicing needs.
- Administer and coordinate annual renewals, including reviewing coverage and collecting updated client information.
- Market renewal accounts as needed and assist with plan placement, carrier communication, and proposal coordination.
- Conduct annual policy reviews to ensure appropriate coverage and identify opportunities for account rounding, upselling, and benefit enhancements.
- Maintain accurate and complete client records, ensuring all documentation is properly processed and stored according to agency standards.
- Maintain renewal expiration lists to ensure renewals are completed within required timelines.
- Respond to client inquiries and carrier requests via phone, email, and written correspondence in accordance with agency service guidelines.
- Review processed items to confirm accuracy and ensure all requests are completed as ordered.
- Maintain working knowledge of carrier underwriting requirements, industry trends, and regulatory changes.
- Participate in training and professional development related to insurance knowledge and client service skills.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Active Indiana Life & Health Insurance License required
- Minimum of 3 years of insurance brokerage experience
- Strong working knowledge of Group Benefits lines, including self-funded plans
- Thorough understanding of brokerage operations, including claims processes, agency workflows, and applicable insurance laws and regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and agency management systems (AMS
360 preferred) - Experience working with carrier proprietary systems
- Familiarity with Benefit Point and/or Employee Navigator preferred
- Excellent time management, organizational and verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a client-focused approach
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
