Under the direction and supervision of the RN, the Endoscopy Technician is expected to utilize his/her knowledge of scrub duties as it relates to Endoscopy procedures. The technician will assist with preparing the procedure room, equipment, and assist the physician in performing procedures in the G.I. lab. Thorough knowledge of endoscope reprocessing process is expected as well as current SGNA and AAMI standards for endoscope reprocessing.

Will assist in managing supplies and equipment related to endoscopy procedures. The Endoscopy technician will demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the span of life and must be able to identify each patient’s age-specific needs and provide appropriate care for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, or adult patient.

Job Specification
  • Must be a graduate of a Licensed Practical nursing program OR have completed a certification program, such as SGNA, along with 1 year of Endoscopy experience is preferred.
  • Minimum Experience Required
    • Recent experience in an Endoscopy suite, Operating Room suite or office practice where endoscopy procedures are done preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification Required
    • Possess and maintain a current license in the Commonwealth of PA required for LPN OR completion of a certification program, such as SGNA, along with 1 year of Endoscopy experience is preferred.
    • Must be BLS certified required (or obtain within one month of hire).
Skills
  • Knowledge to perform sterile technique and understands the principles of asepsis.
  • Basic knowledge of endoscopy equipment and its functions.
  • Must possess interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with patients, family and other members of the health care team.
  • Must possess the necessary abilities to perform the essential functions of this position and complete the established orientation.
  • Must demonstrate ability to utilize hospital computer system and system specific to endoscopies.
  • Must possess understanding and commitment to service excellence and performance improvement.
