Blackfield Associates are currently partnered with a global pharmaceutical manufacturer to support their search for a HVAC Quality Lead to join their project based in Indiana on an initial 12-month contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead quality oversight activities for HVAC, mechanical, utility, and piping systems throughout construction, start-up, commissioning, and turnover phases.
  • Act as the field quality lead, ensuring all installations comply with project specifications, approved drawings, industry standards, and owner quality requirements.
  • Implement and manage project quality plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality procedures, and turnover requirements for all mechanical systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections, audits, and field walkdowns to verify installation quality, workmanship, and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Monitor and verify mechanical testing and commissioning activities, including pressure testing, flushing, balancing, start-up, and system performance verification.
  • Ensure proper installation and integration of HVAC systems, chilled water, heating hot water, condenser water, steam, compressed air, cleanroom systems, process piping, and associated utility infrastructure.
  • Manage quality issues through their full lifecycle, including identification, documentation, corrective action implementation, verification, and closure.
  • Lead the administration of Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), quality observations, and corrective action programs.
  • Maintain accurate quality records including inspection reports, turnover packages, testing documentation, deficiency logs, and quality metrics.
  • Coordinate closely with construction, engineering, QA/QC, commissioning, CQV, contractors, and subcontractors to resolve quality issues and maintain project progress.
  • Support mechanical completion, system turnover, and handover activities by ensuring systems meet quality, documentation, and operational readiness requirements.
  • Provide regular reporting on quality performance, trends, risks, and project readiness to stakeholders and project leadership.
  • Promote a culture of quality, accountability, continuous improvement, and safe execution across the project.

Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
  • Sufficient construction quality experience supporting HVAC, mechanical, utility, and piping systems on large capital projects.
  • Sufficient experience supporting cleanroom or controlled-environment construction within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing facilities.
  • Proven experience working on major industrial or commercial construction projects, preferably valued at $200M+.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, cleanroom systems, utility infrastructure, process piping, testing and balancing, and mechanical commissioning activities.
  • Experience implementing and working within formal construction quality management systems.
  • Strong background managing NCRs, corrective actions, inspection programs, turnover documentation, and quality reporting.
  • Working knowledge of ASME, ANSI, ASHRAE, SMACNA, and applicable mechanical and building codes.
  • Experience reviewing construction drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, commissioning documentation, and quality records.
  • Familiarity with GMP-regulated facilities and quality requirements for pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting commissioning, qualification, system turnover, and operational readiness activities.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with digital quality management systems and construction issue-tracking platforms is preferred.
