The ERS Standard Short-Term Research Fellowship from the European Respiratory Society (ERS) supports early-career researchers and clinicians to carry out basic, translational, or clinical research projects abroad. Fellowship recipients conduct projects at research institutions outside of their home country in Europe.
Applicants must be ERS members and residents in a country in Europe, going to another country in Europe, OR be based overseas and go to Europe - as defined by the World Health Organization. Applications are open to candidates of all ages, targeting researchers at the earlier stage of their careers. Applications from researchers who have taken a career break, including, but not limited to, parental leave, periods working outside research, and experiencing unemployment, are encouraged.

What is funded + Duration
The fellowship includes a living allowance, a child allowance, and a mobility allowance, and should last from 1 to 3 months.
- Applicants should be actively engaged or must have experience in the respiratory field.
- Applicants must be postgraduates holding a university degree in any field related to respiratory medicine (MD, MSc, PhD, MD-PhD). Applicants should have graduated with a MD, MSc, or equivalent degree.
- Postgraduate scientists such as immunologists, biologists, geneticists, pharmacologists, biophysicists, chemists, etc. involved in respiratory science, are entitled to apply for the LTRF.
- Qualified healthcare professionals (non-MD) working in respiratory health/medicine (nurses, physiotherapists, respiratory function technologists, allied respiratory professionals, etc.) are entitled to apply for an STRF. At a minimum, applicants should hold an MSc or equivalent degree.
Applicants must not have worked or resided in the host institution or host country in the last 12 months.
