Postdoctoral Fellow – Design and Development of Multitargeting Biologically Active Compounds
Newly formed working group from the Department of Biochemical Pharmacology and Drug Design at the Institute of Molecular Biology, “Rumen Tsanev” at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) – Sofia is seeking to appoint Postdoctoral fellows with possibility for a permanent contract for research work in the promising area of “Design and development of multitargeting biologically active compound for the prevention and treatment of multifactorial diseases”.
A creative postdoctoral researcher with computational expertise is sought to work in Nikolay Tzvetkov’s group within the newly formed subunit focused on development and implementation of AI‑ and ML‑based approaches and techniques in drug design and discovery (including molecular docking, virtual screening, molecular dynamics simulations, etc.). The group has broad interests, including early drug design, synthetic chemistry and chemistry of natural products, pharmacology, nanobiotechnology, and entrepreneurship.
Researchers will have the chance to develop and implement their computational skills in order to design and evolutionarily investigate small molecule‑ and peptide‑based drugs, using the latest AI or ML tools along with cell biology and synthetic chemistry subunits within the department. According to the development of the projects there will be the chance to learn and apply other computational methods/approaches of interest including bioinformatics and cheminformatics using a large number of chemical libraries (1038) for chemical space exploration and diverse combined in silico techniques.
- Design and evolutionary investigation of small molecule‑ and peptide‑based drugs using AI/ML tools.
- Apply computational methods such as molecular docking, virtual screening, and molecular dynamics simulations.
- Collaborate with cell biology and synthetic chemistry subunits to integrate computational findings with experimental work.
- Use bioinformatics and cheminformatics techniques to explore large chemical libraries and chemical space.
- Ph.D. in biochemistry, computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related area of molecular biosciences.
- Strong presentation skills, both verbal and written.
- Committed to collaborative and interdisciplinary research, able to work independently and as a member of a research team.
- Substantial experience with molecular biology techniques and bioinformatics is essential.
- Strong support during the integration process and opportunity to obtain a permanent contract with all social guarantees and privileges following local and EU requirements.
- Permanent EU residence or work permission, independently of gender and origin, are particularly welcome.
