Compensation: $28.58 - $29.72 per hour; $7,500 sign‑on bonus for Tier 1 Certified applicants with at least two years of qualifying experience.

Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain department‑issued equipment; exercise force and use defensive tools as required.
  • Patrol campus and university property by vehicle and on foot; conduct building and security checks; report suspicious conditions.
  • Investigate disturbances or criminal violations on university or surrounding property; restore peace and order or apprehend offenders.
  • Investigate vehicle accidents on university or surrounding property; conduct investigations, provide emergency care, and assist as necessary.
  • Act as first responder to all fire alarms and EMS calls on university or surrounding property; assist emergency services and administer aid to the level of training achieved.
  • Enforce Ball State, City of Muncie, and State of Indiana parking and traffic regulations; direct traffic when required.
  • Issue citations and effect custodial arrest of law violators.
  • Assist community members and other law‑enforcement agencies as appropriate.
  • Perform community policing initiatives as directed by the department.
  • Prepare and write detailed reports; investigate accidents, criminal cases, and incidents; provide documentation to the prosecutor’s office.
  • Provide security, escort, and transportation for campus cash transactions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Physical and Mental Requirements

    Candidate must meet Indiana Law Enforcement Academy physical fitness standards, be able to exert force up to 100 pounds occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly; sit for extended periods; drive patrol vehicles; run, jump, stand, and walk for long periods; use vehicles, bicycles, firearms, chemical spray, impact weapons, knives, and other defensive tools; operate an Automated External Defibrillator and perform CPR.

    Must read, write, comprehend instructions, and analyze problems with judgment and discretion.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • Valid driver’s license and be insurable under the university’s auto fleet policy.
    • Ability to meet all mental and physical requirements listed above and the fitness standards of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
    • Pass a written examination and polygraph test pre‑offer.
    • Pass a post‑offer/pre‑employment psychological evaluation, medical, drug and alcohol test.
    • Pass skills test.
    • Minimum age 21 at time of hire.
    • U.S. citizenship in accordance with Indiana Code 250

      IAC 2‑3‑1.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Associate’s degree or two years of college or equivalent law enforcement experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • Completion of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy basic training course or equivalent accepted program.
    • Law enforcement experience in a campus/university environment.
