City of Anderson Employment Opportunities PLUMBING INSPECTOR, MUNICIPAL DEVELOPMENTIncumbent serves as Plumbing Inspector, responsible for inspection of plumbing installation and repair projects within City jurisdiction.
DUTIES:
Performs legally required on-site inspections of plumbing installation and repair projects within all new and existing structures to assert compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and ordinances, issuing “stop work” orders as necessary.
Interprets and enforces federal, state, and local plumbing codes and ordinances, and issues citations for non-compliance with legal standards.
Receives various citizen complaints involving plumbing installation and repair projects, investigates complaints, including taking photographs, determines appropriate action, and makes recommendations for corrections.
Ensures appropriate licensing of individuals performing plumbing installation, and verifies necessary permits.
Maintains records of all inspections performed, approvals or citations issued, and final outcome. Monitors and maintains records and reports of all projects, and submits to appropriate local, state, and federal agencies.
Advises contractors and property owners on matters pertaining to applicable plumbing codes.
Serves on Plumbing Control Board.
Required to serve on 24-hour call for emergencies.
Performs related duties as assigned.
I.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local plumbing codes and ordinances, and ability to interpret and apply relevant codes to particular situations.
Ability to obtain required certification(s) within one (1) year of hire date.
Working knowledge of standard practices and procedures of construction and plumbing trades.
Ability to communicate tactfully with property owners, co-workers, and contractors under conditions of potential conflict, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to maintain accurate records of inspection activities and outcomes.
Ability to comply with all employer/department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to serve on 24-hour call for emergencies.
Possession of valid Indiana driver’s license and demonstrated safe driving record.
II. DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
Incumbent apples knowledge of a vast number of plumbing codes and ordinances, and standard practices of construction and plumbing trades, using independent judgment to determine applicable legal standards and ensure program compliance in particular situations.
III. RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent performs duties under well-defined federal, state, and local regulations and guidelines, and receives general instructions from the Building Commissioner. Work is reviewed for compliance with established requirements for the department.
IV. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent maintains frequent contact with department superiors and co-workers, contractors, other organizational units, and members of the general public for purposes of coordinating assignments, receiving complaints, and regulating and enforcing state and local plumbing regulations and ordinances.
Reports directly to the Building Commissioner.
V. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Performs significant amount of work in the field in various weather conditions. Physical effort is exerted to inspect various structures, involving walking, climbing ladders, bending, stooping, and maneuvering in cramped spaces. The incumbent is exposed to hazardous materials and other hazards associated with the construction trade. Incumbent is required to serve on 24-hour call for emergencies.
