Position: Maintenance Repairman 2 - Operator Mechanic (Second Shift)

SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Repairman 2 performs various skilled andsemi-skilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of machinery,buildings, and equipment. Work involves proficiency in severaltrades, with working conditions and the degree of lead workexercised differing by location and the nature of assignments.

Employees exercise technical independence in determining workmethods and procedures, and receive assignments orally or through written instructions, which may be accompanied by sketches ordiagrams. Review of work is received from technical or administrative superiors through inspections and discussions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Paints interiors of buildings; and performs masonry work inconnection with buildings, bridges, foundations, walks, andwalls.
  • Performs and assists in general maintenance work. Includingassisting in steam outages and performing mechanical work in theCOGEN plant.
  • Replaces air filters, lights, and signage.
  • Performs lead work over helpers performing basicassignments.
  • Makes repairs to roofs and installs flashing and spouts.
  • Performs Grounds work including landscape, weed control, and athletic field maintenance
  • Delivers equipment, supplies, and materials when needed.
  • Performs event set ups.
  • Welds and brazes metals by use of arc and acetylene welders;and erects steel for construction.
  • Performs repair on bridge structures, such as building forms,finishing concrete, and operating construction equipment when required.
  • Cuts grass using lawn care equipment.
  • Remove snow from sidewalks and parking lots using snow removal equipment.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Operates all types of equipment.
  • Performs repairs and preventive maintenance work on equipment,or automobiles.
  • Performs manual work when not operating trucks or equipment,including the loading and unloading of trucks. Cleaning, worksites, shops, vehicles.
WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Position Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1.

or

  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical,or mechanical trades.

or

  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training thataffords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.
NECESSARY SPEICAL REQUIREMENT:
  • Some agencies may require possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well in the interview(s).
  • Candidates must have communication skills and cross-culturalabilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.

The salary for this position is determined by the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This position is considered an essential employee as defined by theAFSCME Council 13 Master Agreement, Appendix R. Essential employees are personnel specifically designated by Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) whose presence at work is mandatory to maintaincritical operations, safety, care, or facility protection during emergency situations, severe weather events, or official officeclosings.
